An innovation & a research pole

Innovation Research illustration

The territory known as the "Innovation Cone", in the south Île-de-France region, is characterised by an exceptionally high concentration of research and hi-tech industry. Evry Centre Essonne lies at the heart of this development area stretching from North Essonne and encompassing parts of the Yvelines, Val-de-Marne and Hauts-de-Seine Départements (103 towns in all).

  • A key skills centre

Evry Centre Essonne accommodates scientific centres of excellence of international standing: SNECMA (aeronautical and aerospace engineering), TELECOM & Management SudParis (formerly the Institut National des Télécommunications), ARIANESPACE, the CNES, the laboratories of the University of Evry-Val-d’Essonne, not to mention Genopole®, provide a presence that helps to justify the town’s key position inside the “Innovation Cone” and act as an additional draw for new investment.

Evry Centre Essonne is home to Genopole®, Europe’s human genome capital. With its 23 research laboratories and hosting over 60 biotechnology firms, it is France’s first exclusively genetics, genomics and biotech industry campus.

  • Investing in the medicine of tomorrow

At Evry Centre Essonne, where, with the help of the French Myopathy Association, a Telethon is to be launched, the town is getting ready to welcome a new 110,000 m2 hospital complex - Hôpital Sud Francilien. The hospital, which is scheduled for completion in 2011, will enhance the development of research into the medicine of tomorrow. With this in mind, a joint university-hospital facility will be built alongside the new complex.

  • Genopole® - European expertise

Strengthening an existing teaching centre for life sciences, Genopole® works in partnership with the University of Evry-Val-d’Essonne to build academic excellence in genomics, gene therapy and bio-informatics, creating mixed teams of researchers and forging links with other university centres in France and overseas.

It encourages growth in the biotech sector by welcoming biotechnology firms to its site, supporting new enterprise in the sector and assisting project developers.

A bio-production centre and university institute of biology are being developed and they will further strengthen research and innovation potential. At the same time, Genopole® is developing as a major magnet for the growth of biotech-related satellite industries in the fine chemistry, materials, and bio-production sectors and drawing in the big pharmaceuticals groups.

  • A rising tide of excellence

The science cluster Pôle Scientifique d’Evry Val de Seine (PSEVS) was formed in late 2006 in order to develop synergies among higher education and research establishments. It represents a new phase of organization on the campus, nurturing even stronger excellence among the cluster’s members.

It unites the University of Evry-Val-d’Essonne, Genopole®, TELECOM & Management SudParis, the Materials Centre at the Ecole des Mines de Paris, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Informatique pour l’Industrie et l’Entreprise, the Conseil Général of Essonne and the future joint university-hospital facility at the Hôpital Sud Francilien at Evry-Corbeil.
The cluster also brings together the skills of partners in research fields. Some PSEVS members also belong to the higher education and research cluster “UniverSud Paris”. In total, some 955 research and teaching staff are at work across the various establishments that form the PSEVS.
